A fireplace is generally FULLY VENTED when the following statements are true:
- The flue pipe is 8 inches in diameter or greater
- The fireplace is built for wood burning
- The flue pipe is normally in a masonry chimney that extends above the roofline
- You need to open a damper when you use the fireplace
A fireplace is generally NOT FULLY VENTED when the following statements are true:
- There is no flue pipe or the flue pipe is less than 8 inches in diameter
- The flue pipe (if there is one) goes out of a side wall
- The fireplace has sealed glass panels on it
- You turn the fireplace on with a wall switch
- You look up the model and it says, “direct vent”, “ventless” or “vent free”
